Today, our eyes focus at the same distance for much longer periods of time than ever before. Desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, and even watching television may result in eye strain, headaches, and a sore neck.
One way to effectively reduce these symptoms is to practice “eye training.” During the day, take short breaks – around 5 minutes every hour- to look off into the distance. You don’t have to focus on anything in particular.
For children to develop their eyes fully, they need to subject their eyes to both near and far stimuli as much as possible. It is well-documented that children who spend more time doing activities up-close (reading, painting, video games or computer work) have a higher incidence of myopia (shortsightedness).
A healthy lifestyle is important for eye health: regular exercise, nutritious food and drinking plenty of water. Eating junk food, smoking, and lack of exercise are bad for your eyes. It is understood now, that circulatory disorders are the main cause of many eye diseases. Consult your doctor and develop a health plan that is sustainable, effective, and fun.
Of course, direct sunlight also damages the eyes. Always make sure to equip UV protective lenses inside and outside.
